MORBEGNO
Arriving in Valtellina from the Lake Como, you find the green bottom of the valley between Rhaetian Alps and Orobian pre-Alps: the "Porte di Valtellina".
Crossing the bottom of the valley, you find Morbegno, a lively city at the end of the Bitto Valley and central point for cultural and commercial exchanges of the lower Valtellina. The lively, old town centre, interesting particularly from the artistic point of view and located at the feet of the mountain along the sides of the Bitto, is pleasant to walk around, thanks to the shops selling local products and handicrafts, its old signs and beautiful buildings facing the narrow streets.
The area around the course of the river Adda down to Tirano is characterised by two differing sides: the Rhaetian side with the Cèch area, characterised by small villages and hamlets scattered around vineyards. Exquisite examples of Valtellina rural architecture coexist with noble palaces and religious buildings; Valmasino, with its peaks and granite faces, is well-known to mountain climbers for its climbing routes and the ancient spa of Masino Bagni.
The other side is the Orabian one, shadowy, thickly vegetated with hidden valleys, including the Regional Park of Orobie Valtellinesi. The Tartano, Bitto and Gerola valleys hides a stunning environment. Valgerola/Pescegallo, facing north, is a ski resort;Val Lesina and Monte Legnone, never be lived stablily, this great amphitheatre (because with this shape the valley is delineated) was taken intensely advantage for the summery pasture and for the richness of water, that had allowed the construction of the first hydroelectric system of the province of Sondrio.
This area border on the Lake Como;the inhabited centre nearest to the province of Lecco is Piantedo, over which the Monte Legnone raises imposing, last bridling of orobie before dive into the Como Lake’s and perfect panoramic view on Valtellina, Valchiavenna and “Alto Lario”.
