Not far away from the Swiss border there is the town of Tirano, situated in its ancient strategic position. The remains of this ancient heritage such as medieval walls, aristocratic mansions and sacred buildings are well preserved. From there the Ferrovia Retica’s small, red train, leaves to climb up to the Bernina Pass and then descend towards St. Moritz. Teglio, facing the sun, was recently classified as “one of the most beautiful villages in italy” because of its historical-artistic heritage, it is also a summer and winter resort and offers a wide range of opportunities for high altitude winter sports on the sunny ski slopes of Prato Valentino. Grosio is a town equally soaked in history and art. Its anciet origin can be traced in the rupestrian engravins, which date back to 2200/1100 BC. Aprica at the eastern gateway to the Regional park of the Orobie Valtellinesi, is an importanta centre for tourism. In winter offer a skiing area with ski slopes that cover every level of difficulty. In summer the surrounding areas offer a lot of walkways through protected areas, such as the Pian di Gembro Natural Reserve and the Alpin Eco-Faunistic Observatory.
